Welcome to the studio
I’m going to be completely honest with you: I’ve been trying to write the “perfect” first blog post for way too long. Should I share a tutorial? Talk about my favorite supplies? Give you my entire life story? The overthinking has been real.
Hi, I’m Kim – wife, homeschooling mom, calligrapher, and watercolor artist. I love what I do. I’ve tried my hand at almost every craft over the years, but ink and watercolor are the mediums that captivate me most. There’s something about the way they flow and blend – the discipline and the spontaneity happening all at once.
After 18 years of homeschooling, my youngest is graduating this year. It’s bittersweet – teaching my children has been the greatest honor – but with this transition comes new possibilities. I now have the opportunity to focus more on creating.
Here’s the thing though: while I can create beautiful letterforms with a brush or pen, stringing together paragraphs? Not so much. That superpower goes to the rest of my family. Which made me realize – why am I trying to guess what you want to read when I could just… ask?
This space – these Studio Notes – can be whatever is most helpful to you. It could include:
- Behind-the-scenes of current projects
- What’s in my tool kit?
- Tips and techniques I’ve picked up along the way
- Honest talk about the creative process (including the mistakes and do-overs)
- Your questions answered
The floor is yours. What would YOU most like to see here? What questions do you have about calligraphy, watercolor, or this beautiful mess of combining the two? What would actually be useful to you?
Leave a comment below or contact me, and let me know. Your input will shape what shows up here in the studio.
Thanks for being here at the beginning of this journey. I’m so glad you’re here.
Warmly,
Kim
